Hysteretic effects of dry friction: modelling and experimental studies.
In this paper, the phenomena of hysteretic behaviour of friction force observed during experiments are discussed. On the basis of experimental and theoretical analyses, we argue that such behaviour can be considered as a representation of the system dynamics. According to this approach, a classification of friction models, with respect to their sensitivity on the system motion characteristic, i...
متن کاملDamping Properties of Shape Memory Alloys During Phase Transformation
A high damping capacity is considered as one of the important functional properties of shape memory alloys. Those properties are related to a thermoelastic martensitic transformation. As a consequence of this transformation, the internal friction or damping can be investigated for three different states: 1. during thermal transformation cycling, 2. during martensite induced strain cycling at co...
متن کاملHarmonic analysis of a mass subject to hysteretic friction: experimental validation
The industrial demand for machine tools with increasing accuracy obliges us to take a thorough look at the physical phenomena that are present at small movements of those machine tool slides. One of these phenomena, and probably the most dominant one, is the dependence of the friction force on displacement. This friction force dependency on the displacement can be described by a static hysteres...
متن کاملThe Effects of Internal and External Stiffeners on Hysteretic Behavior of Steel Beam to CFT Column Connections
This study focuses on performance of H-shaped steel beams to CFT column rigid connections. To this end, the effects of internal and external stiffeners on hysteretic behavior of connections were studied. Comparative numerical analyses carried out on eight different connections. To this end finite element models were prepared using ANSYS and nonlinear cyclic analyses carried out. Results of this...
متن کاملIn-Plane Behaviour of a Reinforcement Concrete Frame with a Dry Stack Masonry Panel
In order to improve the energy dissipation of the masonry infilled frame structure while decreasing the stiffening and strengthening effects of the infill panels, a new dry stacked panel (DSP) semi-interlocking masonry (SIM) infill panel has been developed. In this paper, the material properties of DSP and a traditional unreinforced masonry (URM) panel have been evaluated experimentally. A seri...
متن کاملA Frictionless Bristle-Based Friction Model That Exhibits Hysteresis and Stick-Slip Behavior
We investigate the origins of stick-slip friction by developing an asperitybased friction model based on the frictionless and lossless contact between a body and a row of rigid, rotating bristles attached to the ground by torsional springs and dashpots. This model exhibits hysteresis and quasi-stick-slip friction. The hysteretic energy-dissipation mechanism is the sudden release of the compress...
